Minecraft is a sandbox game resembling a Lego constructor in which you can do whatever you want.

Minecraft was created by just one person named Markus Persson, also known by the game name Notch.

Marcus made his first game at the age of eight. Four and a half years (until 2009) he worked at King.com as a game developer. Also participated in the development of jAlbum and Wurm Online. In May 2009, he founded Mojang Specifications.

The success of Minecraft made Persson a millionaire – for example, in 2012 alone, he received 640 million SEK (about $ 100 million) in royalties from Minecraft sales.

Persson wrote Minecraft in Java using the LWJGL graphics inference library, drawing ideas from games such as Dwarf Fortress, Dungeon Keeper, and Infiniminer. Minecraft puts at the disposal of the player a procedurally generated and modifiable 3D world made entirely of cubes – it can be freely rebuilt to create complex structures from these cubes – this feature makes the game similar to various constructors such as LEGO. Minecraft does not set any specific goals for the player, but offers him freedom of action: for example, the player can explore the world, mine minerals, fight opponents, and much more. The game includes additional modes, for example, “survival”, where the player needs to extract resources himself, and “creativity”, where the player has these resources in unlimited quantities. Redstone mechanics allows you to create complex logic circuits in the game – thus, the game can serve as a virtual constructor for programmers and engineers.
