Ձախորդ փանոս (Left Panos)

Once upon a time there was a poor man named Panos. He is a kind person, but whatever he does, he goes to the left. That is why they call it Left Panos. The one who has and the one who does not is like a yoke of oxen, not a plow and an axe. One day he yokes the ox in the mud, takes the ax and goes to the forest. In the forest, this Panos thinks that after cutting down the tree, I have to make trouble, I have to lift the huge log from the ground, throw it into the saddle, it is better to bring the saddle under the tree and stand it under the tree so that I can cut the tree or it will fall in it.

He did what he said.

He brings the cart with the oxen to a stop under a big tree, he goes to the top, pulls the ax – thump thump thump. Whether he pulls too much or too little, he will know that too, the tree comes creaking and knocking, he does it, he breaks the saddle, and the oxen too. Panos stands stunned. What should he do? He takes the ax and heads home scratching his head.

On the way, he passes by the shore of a lake. He sees wild ducks swimming in it. He says: the head is a stone, it didn’t happen, it didn’t happen, let me kill at least one duck, I’ll take it to my house. He says and turns the ax and throws it at the ducks to kill them. the ducks scatter squawking, run away, the one that enters the reeds, the one that flies away, the ax falls into the deep place of the lake, sinks, is lost. Panos stands on the shore of the lake thinking. What should he do, what should he not do? He takes off his clothes and puts them on the shore of the lake, he goes inside to take out the ax. He goes, the further he goes, the deeper the water gets, he sees that he might drown, he turns back and gets out.

Don’t tell me that Panos enters the lake and goes deep. At that time, a passer-by happens by the lakeside, he sees that there are clothes scattered here, he doesn’t even notice Panos, who has gone deep into the reeds, he collects these clothes, takes them, and goes.

Panos comes out of the lake, he sees no clothes. He remains standing naked.

He thinks. “What should I do, Lord God? Where should I go naked like this?”

He waits until it gets dark. Mta gets up and goes to the village. When he approaches the village, he says, “If I go to our house like this, what will the people of the house say?” Come, let me go get some clothes from my brother and wear them, then I will go to my wife.

The road bends towards the old house.

Don’t tell me, there is a big deal at the akhpor that night too, it’s a hot time to have fun. The old man opens the door to see who is there and who is not. one of the guests thinks it’s a dog, throws the gnawed bone in his hand towards the door, the bone hits the eye, pulls out the eye.

Panos turns back moaning in pain, and the dogs also get up on the snow, they see, oh, the darkness is a terrible monster, and they attack it from all sides. At the barking of dogs, people rush out, they see a poor man running away, followed by dogs. Without thinking long and hard, they decide that there is or is not, this is the devil.

After shouting, cursing, and shouting, they chase, chase, and throw them into the forests. The dogs also tear off a branch from behind, and poor Panos goes to perish, helpless, with his eye removed, giving the acorn. The next day, word spread in the village that Panos was lost. He went to the forest and never came back. Geghahavan gathers to go. they go to the forest to look for food, they find the oxen and the ox broken under the tree, he is not there,

Panos here, Panos there. by questioning, they find the clothes with someone.

  • Man, where did you get this clothes from?

Brother, these clothes were lying on the shore of a lake, I collected them, bring them.

They go around the lake, calling: Panos, Panos, Panos is gone.

They decide that Panos drowned.

They come to church and perform mass, give the kelekh. The woman mourns a little, praises Panos, regrets. then someone else wants it, then they get married.
